Embroidery Design for Clothing

Adorn your clothing with your own embroidery designs! This class will introduce you to simple and inexpensive ways to stitch some beauty onto items you already have in your closet. I will guide you through creating a simple design, talk through color and placement choices, and help you get started stitching! I am self taught and hope to bring a spirit of experimentation, play, and permission to create.
Please bring a few items of clothing that you could imagine adding a design to. Natural materials like cotton and linen are great, but not necessary. Something not too stretchy or too thick to get your needle through will work best. I will provide a variety of threads, hoops, and needles but if you have any of these items that you know you enjoy to use, please bring them.
I will share some of my favorite products, artists who inspire me, and share some about my own exploration with embroidery. No prior experience necessary. Depending on how complex of a design you choose, you may leave with a fully embellished piece. If not I will send you on your way with all you will need to finish on your own.
Žiara is a queer artist, creative creature, nature lover, and budding ceremonialist. They enjoy learning about art mediums by experimenting and playing, and finding artists and art that inspire them to create. They live their life as an expression of beauty, by bringing ceremony and ritual into the mundane acts of the day. They are striving to remember their belonging with the natural world by listening to the ways the more-than -human world is always offering us lessons and showing us the ways of beauty, simplicity, and the cyclical nature of things. Žiara believes in creating a new culture from our most magical dreams of interdependent care, abundance, and mutual thriving. They are currently practicing building new world through their involvement in Future Ancestors Folk Choir, Wild Grief, Olympia mutual aid apothecary, Roots and Rhythms outdoor pre-school, and Earth Keepers Wisdom School : A Year in Ceremony.
About Our Classes
Our Co-op Community Classes program has a long and exciting history; we've had a plethora of learning partners over the years, the Free School, GRUB, the Fertile Ground, and more. Many of our classes focus on basic kitchen skills, often paired with a solid education in a particular kind of food: hearty greens, fermented foods, international delicacies, pies, etc. We also feature classes on gardening, personal health, sustainable living, and social justice. Classes are geared towards beginners, with no assumption of prior knowledge, often packed with specific projects appealing to those with more experience.
At the heart of all of our programming is the spirit of generosity. Our classes are led by Olympia Food Co-op working members, staff and community members who want to share their excitement and knowledge with you. Consider sharing your expertise with your community through a Co-op Community Class. Our classrooms are a place to experiment, to explore, and to try something new in a supportive environment. They are a great place to network and meet others in your community who share your interests.
