LessYou started carrying "Ritrovo" brand Tarallini. This is my favorite snack and hard to find. If you were able to get them in "plain" extra virgin Olive oil + salt or pepperocino I would be ecstatic.

We have been ordering Ritrovo once a year and having taralli in December for the past two years now.
We are looking into if we can incorporate this into our set, find shelf space for enough products to make the direct order minimums. It is helpful feedback to hear and encouraging as we consider carrying some of their products year round.

Thank you for your interest and excitement in bringing another Olympia Food Co-op store out to Hawk’s Prairie. While we are not opposed to this idea per say, we are currently working on the expansion of our Eastside store. Since we do plan to stay on the existing properties or within a mile radius of our current east location, we do not have the capacity or resources to earnestly explore a Hawk’s Prairie store for a number of years. We appreciate your support.
LessOrganic Rice Bran Oil. This is a non-seed oil. It has a very high smoke point and fantastic all purpose oil.
We have found non-organic rice bran oil, but we have yet to find an organic rice bran oil.
LessProduce - Bagged Avocados. Really like this product, but consistently getting multiple bad ones. Last package had 2 bad ones, previous ok, next two previous 2 and 4 bad ones. Icky brown at the pit and through fruit.

Back to Nature along with new labeling has reduced quantity, i.e. Chocolate Chunk Cookies 9.5oz to 7.5oz, but same price.
Thank you for your suggestion. Yes, you are correct that Back to Nature just went through a line change on crackers and cookies, reducing the ounces and maintaining the price. We are aware of this. This is commonly called “shrinkflation” and there isn’t much we could do about it. We could consider dropping products or looking for better options. We are not excited about this trend, but also understand that it is one common way brands raise their prices (per ounce).

We completely agree that expanding retail square feet is top priority for expansion right now.
The lot across the street was a necessary piece of the puzzle due to the limited size of the Eastside lot and the loss of parking when we expand the retail space.
It sounds like you got the wrong impression from the blurb, but we are on the same page here. Also, the credit union moved out a long time ago. That space is where our customer service is presently, as well as beer and wine.
I’m missing seeing the Quarterly Mountain Astrologer Magazine. They have been coming out June, September, December, and March… most recently here was the June one. Please bring it back!

We discontinued this product because there is palm oil in the ingredients for this particular product and they are not globally certified with the RSPO (Roundtable Sustainable Palm Oil) certification which is part of our buying guidelines.

Thank you for your suggestion! Though we currently carry some Thai Kitchen items, we’re trying to procure brands that are a bit more unique. (A slow process admittedly!) Thai Kitchen is readily available and is owned by McCormick. Not a criticism of any of sort, just an observation. Currently, we carry Mekhela Red Curry (organic) and Thai Home Red Curry. Both are delicious and a little goes a long way! Bonus for us – they are smaller, underrepresented, independent makers we like to highlight, support and offer as alternatives to “the usual”. Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately all the local bakeries are at capacity since San Francisco bakery stopped wholesale. We were able to increase the deliveries from all the other bakeries shortly after they stopped delivering, but sadly we won’t be able to increase local bread until local bakeries increase their capacity.

LessI have been shopping at the Co-ops in Olympia for ten years. I am finding that the quality of produce and salad bar have gone done considerably and the prices keep going up. I am not seeing much local produce. I also find it disturbing that people working at the Co-ops see it fit to proclaim their activism and ignorant political views while working at the Co-ops. They don't seem to consider that not everyone holds their views nor do they want to be subjected to such views while shopping. Yesterday, an employee ( not sure if she is a volunteer or actual employee because I didn't recognize her) tied her dog in front of the Co-op in the heat and sun without access to any water. The dog has a heavy coat and seemed over-heated. I inquired about the dog and non of the workers seemed to know who the dog belonged to. Not only is this a blatant lie, but these people didn't care, nor did they show any concern for the dog. Two shoppers agreed with me and also expressed their concern for the dog. I asked for a bowl to give the dog water. I called the police because animal services is never available for animals in Olympia. While I was waiting to leave a message for an officer, which is what I was instructed to do, a Co-op worker came outside and told me to hang up my phone and she proceeded to harass me and follow me to my car. She also told me to leave the Co-op and exaggerated by telling me I was being hysterical, which is total hyperbolic bullshit. I have seen a lot of decent, hardworking folks leave this Co-op throughout the years and they still live in the area. Now, I am seeing why a lot of people don't give the Co-ops business. I will do my shopping elsewhere. There are other Co-ops. I have met a few nice people, but not enough to continue putting up with people who are ignorant and insular regarding... everything.

Regarding the dog in question, after you informed us we checked in on it, determined it was safe and then paged the store to find the owner. We care for both animals and people here, provide water to anyone in need and even have free dog treats. Our staff members also recall the interactions they had with you differently. We understand that you no longer wish to shop with us and we wish you the best.
LessThe co-op parking lot is very unsafe. I've suggested before that you have another crosswalk by the entry door and that you post a sign about crosswalk safety. People stroll through the co-op parking lot and it makes for a very dangerous situation. I brought this up before when I almost hit a pedestrian when backing out. It happened again the other day. What do I need to do to bring this to the co-op's attention? Attend a board meeting?

Thank you for your suggestion about having shredded parmesan in bulk bins again, like we did before COVID. Sustainable practices are a priority for the Co-op.
We have opted to use compostable containers at the Eastside instead of bringing back the bulk bins. It is a better option for us in terms of the need to change out and wash the containers and scoops daily, constantly cleaning the area every time someone fills their container, cleanliness of the display and food safety. It also prevents a surprising amount of food waste daily as people spilled cheese almost every time a personal container was filled.
We do sell the 3 lb bags at 10% off, available without a bulk order from the case. And of course, the same cheese is available in bulk bins at the Westside location. Additionally, look for in store “cut and wrap” cheeses in our case that we package in biodegradable cheese paper and soft cheeses such as Brie, Cambozola and St Angel wrapped in biodegradable clear cellulose!

LessBulk bins look very cross contaminated. I have allergies to soy, nightshades, and gluten.
Thank you for your suggestion. We clean bins and sanitize them before using them for a different product. However, we suggest anyone with severe allergies shop packaged to be extra safe. We cannot watch every customer’s interaction with each bin and product, and we’ve seen things like flour getting in the air and falling on other bins. Cross-contamination is, unfortunately, less controllable with our variety of products.

I'd rather have Impossible Burgers than Beyond Burgers. I'd also like Brave Robot ice cream.
Our distributor does not carry Impossible Burgers so we will continue to carry Beyond Burger products, which are Non-gmo, no soy and gluten free.
The distribution center where we get our products has discontinued carrying four of the eight flavors of Brave Robot. We will try the flavors they do have and access how they sell.

Thank you for the suggestion. We love this product and hope to get it back soon. This is coming from a distributor we order only once every 2 or 3 months from. Since the pandemic, they have had a lot of very long term out of stocks which have interrupted our ability to make the minimums consistently. As a result, it has become less feasible to keep in stock, to the point we have questioned if we should source what we can elsewhere. We certainly commit to an umeboshi paste, possibly not the Mitoku brand. Apologies for the long gap in availability and thanks for bringing this to our attention.

We carry the Healthy Valley soups which have 150mg of sodium per can. Even McDougall’s low sodium soups have 370mg of sodium per serving. We did a search to see what we is available through our distributor and Healthy Valley looks like the only option with anything lower than 300mg.

We often get questions about pet food that are great requests for good quality products. Recently we received one for Halo cat and dog food. Unfortunately our suppliers don’t carry it. Because we are not primarily a pet supply store our product options are limited. Right now, at the Eastside, we have a high quality pet food from Portland Pet Food Company. Currently we carry a dog food selection from them and will be adding their cat food soon. Thanks for asking!
